The GREAT Escape!

Cornsnake Enthusiast
Right, so I've discovered this morning that my two cornsnakes have escaped from their feeding containers that I took with me to see my family this Holiday.

I found one of them mere feet from his box (in a shelf) but the other is no where to be found. I think she may have crawled up a radio cord into the wall on the other side of the room. Is that possible? Do escaped corns usually travel that far to escape and do they ever come out for food, water?

Any suggestions as to how I could find this little devil? Where are some of the craziest places that you've found your escapies...and is finding them sometimes an impossiblity?

The last thing I want to consider is not finding her and having to accept that she killed herself from lack of water.

Help! :awcrap:

If it is hard floors you can put flower on the ground to see where she might go. Usually they don't go all that far but they can. The weirdest place I have ever found a snake was in the toilet. The only thing I can think of is the cat picked it up and dropped it on the toilet and he darted under the lid to try and get away. But that does bring up another point. If there are pets pay attention to them because if they are looking in a particular area then check it because they might be watching the snake as well.

Also, keep in mind that they love dark, cramped places. When mine escaped (also as a hatchling), she found her way into my closed desk drawer. I still don't really know how she managed to get in there, but she was unharmed and I found her less than an hour after she escaped.

Christen is right. Just yesterday one of my big rescues had gotten out. I hadn't realized it yet, but my dog kept fussing and looking at the door to the room my computer is in, like 4 feet away from where I was sitting and working. Knowing I had another escapee, a yearling, that I haven't found, I thought it might be him. So I check, sure enough there is a snake under the door, but it is a big one. Found one of the latches on its tub hadn't been latched tightly.

Our snow corn hatchling was hardly a month old when we got her. Within a week she found the side of her lid without enough weather stripping. She made her escape sometime after we went to bed. We found her missing in the morning and launched a full on search party. A friend even came over to help for a few hours. We were sure we'd find her in the large room where she lives, but we slowly worked our way out of the room and through the house. We were exhausted and just sick with the idea of loosing her. TEN hours later we found her. She went across the living room, down a hall, across another small room and out our back door (small gap at the bottom). I went on to our side porch where we keep the kids shoes, helmets, knee pads etc. I called for my son to help me go through the pile, promising it would be the last place we would check for the night. We went through piece by piece. She was coiled under the last elbow pad on the ground. She was one chilly little corn (cement porch), but unharmed. Good luck finding your baby!

There is no telling how far they will travel most times they don't go far from there home tank they can and will climb check high places on top of door and Window frames, Window sils I hope u find it

I remember reading reading a thread about how this person made a "trap" for the snake, try searching it up. Good luck!
