The Great Snake Escape Reenactment In Pictures

Patients took over asylum
Why is it that every time I use part of the snake room for storage, one of my snakes decides to escape? And it had to be one of my babies from my first clutch, a female no less. Sure, it's just a normal het anery(?), poss. other hets, but she was in there at midnight!

I decided to get all the stuff that wasn't animal out of the snake room again now that my fridge has been replaced. I checked on the snakes at about midnight last night and this snake's container was on top of a stack. I remember seeing the snake because she was doing the "escape search" that snakes love to do.

I went in this morning and happened to glance in the tub. No snake. And here I am thinking "this snake has been in this tub for almost a week. It didn't escape in all that time.... why search? I have 30 boxes in here! Darn snake. Maybe I'll find her eventually, she is one of the ones that ate...."

Almost 12 hours after last seeing her, I found her again. It was mostly pure luck. I thought I'd reenact the find. I thought it was more important to catch the silly girl than find my camera first. Pictures are terrible, but you'll get the idea. Please remember that, as this was staged for pictures, the tub is not setup like it was when I found her. Too much effort to set it up when she won't be living there anymore. :spinner:

First, the discovery of the empty tub:

Here's the culprit:

So, I don't search and decide that I want to re-arrange the room again after I empty it out. I just happen to glance over at the Goldfish tank...

What is this? Wait... is that a snake skin?
DSC05739.jpg

It is! Is the snake in the fish tank!?! No, not in the tank. Thank God. Maybe the killer goldfish at her... Lol. I really need to replace that cover. Wait... maybe she is under the light? It's nice and hot there...

Please stay tuned to part two. Coming right up!

Not in the light, which is good. Hey look! A box right next to the shed!

This is what I see in the box after I remove the vinyl...

Shoeboxes and mutilated cat food bags (Spook likes to mutilate even with four bowls of food throughout the house). No snake so far... Under the cat food maybe?

And Wow! There she was! She's not in the picture but she was under the yellow bag. I swear she was! Lol So now, she's stuck in a travel deli. It's big enough for her and she shouldn't be able to escape again. Please meet Eva, the snake that traveled six feet, shed, possibly swam in a fish tank, and made it into a box in 12 hours!

And here is Spook, who was sitting in the 10 gallon fish tank that I was using as a table (it was on its side). I was trying to focus my camera and happened to shoot this instead.

Amazing story! She was just looking for a little privacy while she changed :). Did you figure out how she gave you the slip?

Lol! Funny story! But I'm glad you found her :)

And it took me a minute to find Spook in that picture...I was staring at it for a minute thinking "what the heck am I supposed to be looking at?!" And then I saw the cat and I felt so idiotic! Lol! It's just one of those days, I tell you.

I forget that not everyone knows my animals by name. Heck, with half the snakes, I still have to look up their numbers to figure out who I'm looking at.

As for privacy, I'm still collecting enough toilet paper rolls to get one to everybody. Unfortunately, a roll lasts a week to two weeks in my house, so it's slow going. Though, if Spook (the kitten) gets a hold of another roll, I'll be that much closer.

Lol. You're welcome. To be honest, I was procrastinating on cleaning. Snakes are a great excuse aren't they?
