One of my corns escaped from his cage about a month ago. After lots and lots of searching I gave up figuring that he was gone for good but just a couple of days ago he was found. I was really suprised that he survived so long without water but seemed to be in perfect health. My dilemma now is that my corn snake is acting very odd. He has eaten a mouse but is continually attempting to get out again. He just used to do this when he was hungry but now it is nonstop. Is there any way to get him to calm down again. I am a little worried that he may hurt himself while trying to get out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also, just curious, but what is the longest anyone has heard of for a corn to escape and be without water and survive? Thanks for any input.
 
hmm, sorry i cant actually be much help.
but if you just continue to handle for a little while each day and secure the vivarium then he should learn again that he cannot get out and eventually will settle in again, as hes been free for a while he has ajusted to it so he needs to be ajusted to limited space again, he should be fine though.

im not too sure about how long they can go without water but with food i know its for quite a few months, my missy before we had to have her put to sleep hadnt eaten for 4 mnths, but im not too sure on that.

where are all the experts?

One of mine escaped in early August a couple of years ago and was found alive in the downstairs flat late the following February. She hadn't gone outside, so unless she found a leaking pipe that neither I nor my neighbour were aware of, she wouldn't have had a decent drink in nearly seven months. Having said that, I can't really believe that she survived all that time without any moisture at all.
 
A young lad i know (13 years old) has just got his snake back after 4 monthes of escaping.
As to how to calm it down agan i'll give you the same info i gave him. Leace alone for a fortnight except to change the water dailly or every other day (dailly prefered in my mind) and feed once a week for the fortnight then gently re-introduce short time handleing for 5-10 mins at a time and treat like a new snake, like your starting from scratch with this snake.
 
it might be because there isnt much to do in his tanks. do you have a astro turf or like aspen shavings. if they have something to "play" with in their tank he should stop trying to excape if thta dosnt work i dont know whta to do........
 
Mangrove corns will always look for an escape route, no matter how many "play things" they have, It's just their natural perogative to do so.
