the saga continues........

Lil refused her thawed peach fuzzy wednesday, and the remaining 3 live babies too big now, woke up today to find a perfect shed and a very pretty girl, btw she's not on an ultra-hairy arm, it's a cushion!

more yellow showing along under her chin now, but no change in overall body colour, so looks like I may have to change her label from green-blotch snow to sunglow, I mean just snow!

Hurrah! The 3 mice all produced this week, and Lil took a 5-day old pink last night. As se usually poops on the mice, I wash them, then she eats them, decided to avoid that step by washing the pink first. It worked! Perhaps Lil doesn't like the smell of mice?

:roflmao:
That would be a good one if she didn't like the smell of mice...LOL

I wasn't that happy about live feeding, there's a real stigma about it in the uk too. However, it's the baby mice or my snake, and if you've got a snake and buy frozen mice for it to eat, it's only a step removed anyway. My breeder mice are kept in good conditions both because I keep all my animals that way, but also on a practical note because healthy mice=healthy babies=healthy snake.

From the wya you keep your snakes i can see you wouldnt mistreat the food. And i know the only difference in lfrozen food is YOU don't kill it but easier not to think about it.

2 large pinks down the hatch today, and I didn't have to wash them! Lil was out searching for food this morning, and took less than 5 minutes to eat. Hopefully the mice won't be too big next feeding, as she is rubbish at constricting and just eats them head first. If they are a bit lively, I may try stunned next, on the road to f/t........

Oh, btw, I wouldn't normally have fed after only 4 days, only tried because she was actively searching for the first time, if she'd ignored the first pink I would have tried again in a couple of days. Probably it was because her last pink was only small that she was hungry again so soon

Every 4 days while on pinkies is fine, especially for her where you want to build her back up. None of my hatchlings constrict pinkies. In fact, yesterday one of the poor things was eaten backwards......poor little squeeker....

The mice are producing their litters within a couple of days of each other, and averaging 6 or so each that they don't eat. This means the babies grow fast, and I'm trying to balance Lil's feeding with their window of being the right size and my shift system at work. Feeding off the biggest out of the pinkie pile just seems to give the others a chance to grow faster!

Lil was 21grams when I got her in november. At her worst she was 8grams in february. She is now an enormous  42grams this month!

Least the feeding problems haven't affected her growth then. Hope she continues to feed well for you, though this thread has been good; the advice will come in handy when i get my snake.

Lil is behind on her growth, but now she is eating regularly I'd expect her to catch up over the next year or so. I'l never breed her so she'll just be a well loved pet, even if she turns out to be a dwarf corn!

But if you spent so much time getting her to eat, might be a good thing you cant breed her because it would not only put her off her food again but risks her life to egg binding. Just a thought, wouldn't want to get her through this only to lose her.
