i have noticed a dent in my corns right eye !!!!! what is it?? will it affect the way he sees?? will it go away? and is it dangerous to the snake?

thanx a bunch, i m starting to get worried!

ps
how often do snakes shed?

gracias!!!

I've never seen it in corns, but in some boids I've seen their eyes get wrinkled if the humidity is too low. If this is the case with your snake, try raising the humidity till his next shed and see if the eye looks normal again after the shed.

i will try to post a pic but how exactly do i raise the humidity????
remember im new at this and i dont have a whole bunch of equipment!!!v lol

Stick the water bowl on the warm end of the enclosure, or stick in a moist hide like I did with my leopard geckos...

Making a moist hide

You can make it bigger or smaller depending on the size of your snake. If you find he's hanging out in there a lot, then the humidity is a problem.

Usually putting a water bowl on the warm end will raise this a little.

What kind of enclosure is he in? If it's a mesh cage, get it outta there asap.

1) Mesh cages ain't exactly great for keeping in the humidity in an air-conditioned room.

2) He could've damaged his eye on the mesh.

If it's a glass tank or a plastic tub, then you should be ok.

I use 12qt rubbermaid snaptoppers for my lil guys. They'll be good in there til they're about 18" long or so. I just drilled holes in the side for air, and they're doing good. Having a solid lid on the top helps keep the humidity up a lil too - as opposed to a mesh/screen lid on a glass tank.

i have a glass cage with a screen door on top ( i dont exactly know what a mesh cage is ) i will try the waterbowl in the warm part. and i was wondering about putting like a piece of newspaper over the top, covering only a part of the top ( screen). tang (my corn snake with a dent ) is about to shed soon, his eyes are turning opaque and the sheckered marks on his tummy is not as sharp as they usually are. so i will try the bowl thing tonight, and if putting the newspaper on the top is a bad idea then i wont do it (obviously! :) )
thanx for all the help!!!
: )

Don't worry too much.... i posted this some time ago.. notices that my corn had what looked like a dent in his eye.. i heard him fall the previous night... i asked about and was told that it should sort itself out at the next shed.. as it happened Kellogg (the corn) had shed the previous week so i was a little unsure how long it would take to shed again... in the end i noticed that about 3 days later it had corrected itself.. and seemed to cause no stress to the animal..

manteca,

Covering part of the top of the enclosure with a newspaper will work fine for keeping the humidity in. Don't worry about it! You're doing a great job as a snake "mom".

thanx sooooooo much guys!!!!
it made me feel soooooo good when katie said i was doing a good job as a snake "mom"!!!!! :)
