I've owned Kieran for almost seven years now and he's never, ever struck or coiled his prey... never. He wouldn't even take it out of my hand.... it would need to be placed in the center of his feeding tub and the lights dimmed before he would even show much interest in it.

Well, two weeks ago he came off a three month hunger strike and I only gave him an adult mouse (he normally gets a rat every 7 days)... well, apparently it was a poor excuse for a meal as last night, not only did he take it from me before I could put it down, but he immediately coiled around the rat pup! A first... dang, he was fast... Went straight for the throat... perhaps he thinks he's a vampire corn? :)

I only took the one picture as he was glaring at me... so I put the lid on and dimmed the lights for him :)

Tell me about it!

Last night, I had a similar experience: ShugaBoog would only eat consistently if his food was washed, his container covered & the lights dimmed, as well as the room completely quiet -- yes, I know: quite the demanding diva! :p He's also the 'gentle gourmand': nary a strike, ever! Regardless, last night, I put ShugaBoog in his feeding container, and I thought, "well, let's see what happens tonight," though there was no intention behind this...and wouldn't you know it? No washing, struck at his adult mouse, constricted it, and all while the lights were on, lid off! Floored me plenty! :p

And then Shug looked at me, as if to say, "Could I have some privacy, please? Lid! Lid! Where *is* my lid & cover?! Who hired the help around here?!"

I'm glad that your Kieran is eating for you again!

LOL, that was exactly what Kieran was telling me :) ShugaBoog is a little more demanding than Kieran. I got to quit covering his container about two years ago :) Still must be in an out of the way area and the lights must be dimmed. I have gotten pictures once or twice before, but it's rare. :)

Love the color on that guy!

Thanks tom e :) He's a Kathy Love Hypo by that gorgeous Ghost she had in her first book. His father is the whole reason I purchased him when I did. I'm sure glad I did. Although he might have gotten some action if someone else had :D

I fed today and my Normal female who is gaining post-lay weight back grabbed the mouse out of the tub coiled, before I had her set in the tub, crazy.

How weird... I'm pretty sure the full moon is well past! Of course, laying eggs is dang hard work! Makes a gal feel mighty hungry :)

Good pic! Glad he's constricting for you. Today, my Dumerils boy, instead of striking his rat, knocked it off the tongs, and slammed it into a corner and crushed it. It was kinda cool to watch!
