Thermometer and Thermostat

Hey guys!! OK, Im really confused. When I first bought my cornsnake I just thought I needed a UTH and a lamp. But after reading several threads, it turns out that the temperature can greatly increase if there is no thermostat. I have one of those stick on thermometers and I know those aren't really accurate. I had a couple of questions:
1.Exactly what type of thermometer do I need and what type of thermostat?
2.How does the thermostat work? Do I attach it to my UTH?
3.Can I use one thermostat for more than one tank?
4.Where can I buy the thermostat and the thermometer? Walmart? Online?
Alright, thanks alot guys. I appreciate all your help.

1) The thermometer needs to have a remote probe. Usually purchase able at walmart or any other such store. The Thermostat is really a matter of personal choice. I have two of the ESU thermostats, one for Spur and one for the snake I plan to buy in a week. the important things about the thermostats is that they must have a remote sensing probe and must be able to be set so they give off the correct temperatures.
2) The thermostat is plugged into a heating device and a power source, it then senses the temperature at the end of the probe and alters the power going to the device plugged into it to attempt to make the temperature at the end of the probe match the range it is set to. It can do this by either altering the current or by turning the device on and off.
3) It's usually recommended that you use one thermostat per tank, but it is possible to use one for more then one tank if they are identical and in very similar locations.
4) Thermometer is at walmart, canadian tire, radioshack, etc. Thermostat can often be picked up directly from a good reptile pet store. Otherwise most online reptile stores carry one or more types of thermostats.
