Thermometer Placement

Just measured Jables today; 12 inches. He's a month old. I'm not sure how much he weighs yet. We're still in the midst of getting our extra supplies. We did pick up an UTH today. I have a thermometer with a probe and I stuck it on the very bottom of the tank, underneath the substrate. The heater is on and it's reading about 117 degrees. Is it just a lame thermom? The actual substrate isn't much warmer than the cool side of the tank. Where do you all usually put your thermoms?

Thanks,
Trav and Meg

That's why you want the probe on the glass and UTH regulated by a rheostat or thermostat. Or, instead of sticking the UTH to the tank you can stick it to a tile or another small piece of glass and raise the tank until you get a lower temp. Don't leave it on at that high a temp, or your snake can get burned...
