thermostat (500r) help-not heating?

bella

mmm zombies....
i recently got a new thermostat, a zoomed 500r. but i have been having issues with it putting out enough heat. i fixed the prob firmly to the glass on top of the heat mat (which is under the glass) and did what the instructions said. i set it mid way to see what the temps would read and they only got to about 75. so i have been slowly cranking it up until where it is now, the highest point. and still am only getting a reading of 80. i have a digi thermometer (outdoor/indoor) so i put the probe against the glass and after like 15 or so mins it only read 86 after being on the highest setting. 80 isn't bad but the thing says it can go upto 110 on the highest setting so something isn't right. and the indicator light is mostly off, suggesting the temp is what its supposed to be and not heating up the uth. both appliances are zoo med so i have no idea what is going on. and the heat mats have workedfine before. the only thing i can think of is that the stat cord is plugged into an extension cord, but i didn't think that that would make a difference. i included some pics, any suggestions would be nice? and of course i ordered it online so if there is issues its kind of a pain to replace or w/e.

Mine did the same thing when I got it. After a day or so..it regulated itself. I wasnt sure why I had to crank it up so high. What is the temp in your house? That could play a part in lowering the temps maybe. I have mine set at about midway now and my temps vary between 83-86. Leave it for about a day or so and see what happens.

It sounds like something is wrong with it or the mat. I have been setting up a viv for a snake that is on the way. I plugged it in last week to a zoo med mat and stays between 82 to 87 degrees. It holds this temp range day or night. Our house is rather cool at night and it seems to have no problem keeping in that range. Mine is dialed to the first part of the green mark, lots of room to turn it up...

I would still just wait a day or so to see if it regulates itself before you go through all of the BS it takes to return something that you bought online..UGH! If it still isnt working properly then give them a call.

Mine works fine as well..I still have plenty of room to turn it up if I wanted to and it keeps it at a good 83-86..You might just have a faulty thermostat..

thankx everyone, i think i am just going to wait a few days and keep a super close eye on it. if it doesn't change ill try and contact the company, which hopefully will go smoothly....
i don't think it is the mat because i actually have two heat mats (same ones) plugged into it and both read the same temperatures

Is the thermometer probe in the same place as the thermostat probe? Make sure the thermometer is showing the temp at the probe. Ignore where the thermostat is physically set, just get the temp on the glass right over the mat to about 82-85 and it should be fine.
