Thermostat or Rheostat or Both?

I am waiting for the BigAppleHerp.com $30 thermostat to arrive in the mail. My UTH go up to 130 degrees and I figured I need something. So I am getting a thermostat, but do you think I should get a rheostat also, or is that going a little overboard. I would definetly get one at walmart for $10 or make my own if I do get one. I am not going to pay $25 for one at Petco. Thanks in advance.
