THermostat

it's possible, however you would have trouble using it seeing as a remote probe placed in the terrarium is needed to get an accurate measure of temperature.

biggest problems I can see with that are:
1) you need the temp at or under the substrate, the box measures ambient air temp
2) cleaning the box when it gets dirty
3) potential of electric shock to the snake
4) the snake bumping it and changing the temp setting

If you don't see those as being a problem (ie, you have a solution) and you have the thermostat laying around, I'd say try it for a few hours, using a remote thermometer to keep an eye on the temps and if it isn't working then take it out.

One other problem is a house thermostat is 24 volts and the heating element(being UTH or flexwatt) is 120 volts. So, you will need a 120/24 volt transformer, 24 volt relay with 120 volt contacts, and correct wire size for each of them. It would be allot simpler and maybe cost only a little more to buy a T-stat from MGreptiles. But, that just my opinion.
