They are Eating!!!

Beamish has had two successful feeding at my house. I am elated! This is a sweetheart of a snake. He is a little skittish when I try to feed him in the feeding box, so I hold him in one hand and hold the pinky in the other. He opens wide and then I hand him the pinky. He holds on until I put him in the feeding box and then goes to town. I tried to get a picture of this but I only had so many hands! :spinner:

He is still thin but because he is eating I am not worried about the weight right now.

Here are some pre-feeding pics outside of Beamish:

Guinness is just Fiesty! He strikes and bites more times then I would like. So I am a wimp and do handle him with gloves to get him out of his viv, then once he calms I remove them. He ate this week as well, :dancer: so just a little settle time and right on schedule. We will see how next week's feeding goes.

Here are some outside pics of Guinness:

Thanks for looking

Beautiful Arizona. Good to hear that eating is taking place.

My Ariz. Mtn. Kings either go off their feed, or are extremely sporadic feeders, during the winter months (unbrumated). This is something that is not very uncommon for these snakes. Could be that this was Beamish's "reason" for not eating. Though, of course, I cannot say, with 100% certainty, that this ~is/was~ the reason ;) ... just figured I'd pass along the info.:)

Thank you for the info Pasodama.

Someone else mentioned this when I first posted about these guys. I think you all are probably right.

I spoke with the young girl I got these guys from regarding Guinness' fiestiness. She said she was housing him in a shoe box size tub in her rack system. So I imagine moving to the bigger viv and new home right away was a bit too much stress. I will give him some more time and add some more foliage to his viv for the sence of being more protected. I really like his color and would like him to become a "nice" snake. Only time will tell.

Thanks for the compliments.

I love Beamish! Gorgeous Kings.......all pics should have to be taken outdoors. The natural light just works:).

I got a bit off schedule and fed everyone yesterday... The arizona "Beamish" ate two tiny pinkies! I was very proud, I offered two because I could barely see the first one he downed. This boy likes his pinkies HOT HOT HOT!

The MBX "Guinness" didn't want anything to do with the scented pinky, HOT, pinky or pinky with chicken broth again. So I fed that pinky to Maize. Then I thought hum, maybe since he is so fiesty because of fear he might like to eat alone. So I put him in a feeding tub with a paper towel, a pinky and left him over night. This morning, NO PINKY! This was an unscented, un anything pinky. So I think I have figured out his feeding malfunction (he wants to be left ALONE!) NP if he will eat!

So yes, to another successful feeding day!

I've got a lot of snakes that prefer to be covered up to eat. Otherwise, they just pace around. Also, if I know one is like that, I'll put them in a smaller feeding container than seems like they should go in, so they can't go off in a corner and avoid the food.

Good Tip! If next week he doesn't eat in this smaller container I will try a smaller feeding container. Thanks!

Thanks for the comments, I think they are pretty snakes too!
