Third Snake is the Charm??

When I got my first Cornsnake at the beginning of February I would have never believed that I would have three. A year ago I would call you insane if you said I would have a snake period. But here I am, the proud mommy of three corn snakes. This is the newest addition. He is an 11 month old anery motley stripe het snow. I only took a couple pictures with my phone when I brought him home and now settling in. When I feed him I will try to take better pictures. He needs a name. The pictures don't do him justice, he's beautiful in person. I want a name that fits him. I'm open to suggestions

Very cute! I was in the same boat as you about 2 years ago - got my first snake and didn't think I would 'need' 7 more.

His mottled colors and swirls remind me of gemstones and minerals. He *is* a beautiful boy. How about some gemstone names?

Named him Jax

Thank you for the suggested names. I love the name Jasper, but it's my nephew's name so I thought that might be weird

I named him Jax and he is a great little guy. I'm not sure if my scale is off, but when I weighed him for the first time he was 14 grams and measured about 15 inches. According to the breeder he is a 2012 born the first week of June, so he's just about to the 1 year mark. I was reading somewhere that this may be small for a yearling, but he eats really well, is super docile, and appears healthy. He had his first shed with us about a week ago with no issues. These pictures were taken last night before he was fed. They were taken with my phone so they aren't the best quality and the lighting sucked. Like I said in Lilly's thread I had hoped to get him out into the sun to take pictures, but it has been raining and cold here. I will get out the nice camera and try to get better shots of him. anyway, here he is.

Based on pix, I would say 14 grams is probably pretty close, although that is very small for a baby almost a year old.
One of my babies was almost 60 grams at that age, & he was a problem eater, he refused to eat for almost two months after he hatched.

Looking at that guy I see; Bartholomew, Prescott, Godrick, Reginald, or maybe Sulaiman.
Rajiv is sanscrit for "striped", that's a cool name.

At that size it's likely he's been kept on a maintenance diet and fed enough to keep healthy but not enough to really grow. I expect you'll see him sprout really fast if you start feeding him 2 pinkies every 5-7 days and moving up to fuzzies as soon as he's ready.

I agree that it was likely kept on a "maintenance" diet, but I wouldn't consider this as "healthy", to me, it's just enough to keep them alive.

I don't agree with this type of feeding. If a "breeder" doesn't have the money or the time to feed them on a normal feeding schedule, then they probably shouldn't have them, IMO.
I have a sour taste for this kind of treatment of animals. I have had a few animals sent to me that were clearly "maintenance fed" & when an animal is a year or two old, that is the size of a hatchling, that's not proper care of an animal.
*This was not directed at anyone in this thread, just about people who do this to their animals.

Oops, sorry. It's supposed to be het lavender I believe. I'm awful with the genetics, but I'm learning. Is the het lavender possible? I don't plan on breeding him, he's a pet, but I would like to know if what I was told was correct.

I couldn't agree more that 'maintenance" diets are poor ways to keep a snake. To be honest I didn't even know that people did this until there was another thread recently on this very topic. I thought it was very odd that he was so small. I have an amel who is about 6 months old and they are about the same size so for a moment I thought maybe I was overdoing it with him (although I know that is wrong because I follow the advice given on this forum and he's been growing nicely). It actually cleared it up for me that he must have been fed just enough, which is so sad. But now he's with me and being fed properly. I should say he appears healthy other than being so small.

I also love the anery. I am also becoming a huge stripe fan I'd like to have a couple more morphs, but the husband says no more snakes....for now. :dgrin:

het lavender is absolutely a possibility and a good one. with more frequent feedings he'll catch back up in no time. stripe and vanishing pattern are my favorites too. you need to convince him you need a butter or sulfur stripe for christmas.

He's actually lucky, some women like jewels, make-up, and expensive shoes. Me, I'm happy with tattoos and snakes. It's actually good he keeps me in check or I'd have LOTS of animals.
