Tile?

RyanR

Canadian Boa Fanatic.
ive been reading around for my beardie and it says tile is a suggested subtrate since its easy to clean... visiualy apealing adn there is no chance of impaction..

so i was wondering if i could ues tile for my corn snakes? and put a humid hide in when there shedding?:)

is there anyone who uses it? any input would be appriciated.. thanx :0

I'd say if you switch to tile, you'll miss the absorbant qualities of a substrate.

One function of substrate is either to soak up poop (aspen and newspaper) or to allow it to drain away from the snakes (bark chips), so they don't stay in contact with it.

With tile, the poop will just sit on the surface of the floor. Unless you're there 24x7 and clear up immediately, your Corns will be moving around in it, smearing it round the viv etc. This could cause problems with their scales being in constant contact with urates/faeces and I suspect will also make spot cleaning much more of a chore.

If you're worried about ingestion of substrate, then you can feed your Corn outside the viv or use newspaper.
