Tom's Christmas Escape

So. Let me go ahead and introduce myself: Hi, I'm Caitlin, and I'm the newest member of the "My snake escaped" club.
Here's a Christmas poem I wrote all by myself to explain what happened this morning. Enjoy.

It was Christmas morning,
and all through the house,
the animals were stirring,
and a snake had come out...
Caitlin crept to the bathroom,
with sleep in her eyes,
when she turned on the light,
and found a surprise!
There on the floor,
with no regrets in his eyes,
was her corn snake Tom Riddle,
and he had nowhere to hide.
Caitlin shouted "What the hell!"
as she scooped up her snake,
and promptly placed him back home,
in his own newly secured tank.
Tom riddle wasn't pleased,
as he soon found out,
that his owner bought tank clips,
now he can't wander about.

The end.

So yeah. The snake rack is in my bedroom for now- My personal Xbox one gaming system sits on the top shelf, above Tom's tank. It only turns on if someone touches the silver X button.
Well, this morning it turned on, and I heard the little musical notes of it coming to life- I didn't care because I was passed out at the time. About 15 minutes later, my dog starts pacing around my bed, MADLY sniffing under the closet door that leads into the bathroom. He's going crazy, doing something, I didn't know what at the time. I got up and pushed him out of my room, and fell back asleep.

At this point, my body was telling me I needed to take care of other things, so I wander into the closet towards the restroom... I flip on the light, and low and behold, there sits Tom, staring up at me... I didn't understand at the time, like my mind didn't comprehend that I was looking at an escapee...He didn't even try to get away, he just sat there while I picked him up and stared at him...

So, he was the one who turned on my Xbox by slithering over it, and my dog found him first and wanted to play with him, which is why the dog was going batshit crazy.
I checked him for injuries and he was perfectly fine.
I quickly got tank clips, and this will never happen again.
I found out he was able to pop the tank lid up in the air- then when it got stuck on the thermometer and thermostat cords, he squeezed his fat ass in that teeny tiny hole... That smart little turd! He's been pushing on the same corner all night, with no luck... Muwahahaha!

I feel SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO very fortunate that I found him when I did- My stomach literally dropped when I saw him out of his tank- I thought he was hurt or dead, and it killed me on the inside. I am so thankful he is okay and that I actually found him... It just goes to show that no matter how many precautions you take, things can still slip through the cracks. (Literally)

Here's Tom, he's pretending to be ashamed. He has no regrets about his Christmas adventure.

I am so happy you found him right off the bat like that! I have a kingship ale that has been missing for 5 weeks now :(

Omg thank you! I'm so grateful and lucky.
I hope your missing baby turns up... I can't imagine how difficult that is =(

I'm so happy he is home safe :)

Me too.... I would have lost my mind if I hadn't seen him out in the open right away... I didn't even know he'd gotten out!
I'm very thankful and very lucky. No matter how many precautions I thought I took, it wasn't enough for that slippery little eel lol

Love the poem!

Just got clips so I could use my new screens. I have a bone to pick with Zilla, however. My screen corners can still lift with just two. They need to come four to a package, not two.

May just go with Velcro bands around the whole tank after all.

I swear I was just testing that- The lid seems super secure, but if put a little "oomf" into it, I can get it to lift up at the corners like you said- I agree with the four thing, I might have to purchase a second set of clips here in the near future lol
