transmitting sicknesses to corns

If you happen to be sick is it safe to handle your snakes? I mean, is it possible you could give your snake any sicknesses? Thx.

Adam

No, there is a species barrier when it comes to transmitting your sick bugs! Unless you had ticks or mites on you (ewww!) then there isn't anything you could transmit to your snake. As far as I know anyway....

thats not 100% true Rachel BUT it is close enough to be about right.
Certain diseases CAN cross between individuals from different species however such things are rare and VERY specific.. eg the suspected link between TB in wild badgers and TB in captive cattle. This particular strain of TB is identical in both species and is suspected that it can cross between them but not into any other species, although nothing is actually proven on this and all the links are theorised rather than proven.

As for cornsnake/human diseases.... i would be very surprised if any common human illness would have any effect on a snake at all.

thx...

ok. thx. I was sick home from school the other day (better now:D ) and I didn't know if I should handle my snakes or not. Thx again.

Fair enough Blito, but I was answering a qu about human/corn transmission. I understand that there are quite a few diseases that can be transmitted between mammals, no matter what species. There are none that I can find that can be transmitted from humans to reptiles (except the whole salmonella thing, which imo isn't totally clear on whether human carriers can transmit to snakes).
