Triple clutches?!?!

Crazy Snake Lady
Hello! :) I have been breeding corns for the past few years, and something amazing is happening tonight........ my oldest breeding female is laying her [/B]third clutch of the year!!!!!!!!!!! I can't find any info on third clutches, I've never heard of it, but she's doing it now! Rosie is a classic corn het. for hypo & motley, about 7 years old, and she (as all of my corns do) have already laid two clutches. Her first was 35 eggs on 5-31-10, her second was 20 eggs on 7-18-10, and now she's laying again!!! I was already getting worried about her, because she hasn't eaten for a month (very unusual) and is already very thin from her first two clutches! Well now I know why she wasn't eating! So far it looks like she's close to another 20 eggs, however they all look like slugs. Has anyone ever heard of this, or experienced it???

With Corns - the rules are, there are no rules! At 7 years old she's in the prime of her fertile life so I guess it's more likely at this point. I've heard of triple clutching before but never experienced it myself.

You poor lass is going to need some serious TLC to get her back in shape after this. Shame the eggs are infertile, but I suppose your main focus is now trying to get your lady through this. Let us know how it goes.

My original wc female laid a third clutch one year (all slugs). Surprised the heck out of me as well! And as I recall, she was also about 6-7 years old.

Wow, poor girl, I think I would give her a break next year. The infertile third clutch says to me she has not retained sperm so she should be cleared for taking a break. Poor baby! Please do let us know how she does with recovering!

Well it looks like 19 slugs. I'm going to try to feed her tonight, she usually eats right after her clutch is laid, so hopefully she will this time too. I was already thinking of giving her next year off. Last year, after her two clutches she was in such good shape you wouldn't even know she laid eggs. This year she's very thin, so my first priority is getting her back in good shape. I'll keep updating on her progress. Thank you for your answers, it's sooo nice to ask other experienced corn owners!!! :)

Well she ate, I offered her 7 hoppers, and she ate 3 of them. As long as she's still her usual self she'll start piggin out after her post lay shed! :) Sorry it took me so long to get back, my grandma died suddenly, and I've been a complete wreck! :(
