i have just moved up to a 4ft tank. and it is really hard to get the temp up even with 2 uth on all the time it only reaches about 70f during the day and drops even lower at night. i dont currently have a light in there, this used to boost the temp up a bit but i had to keep it on 24/7 and she didnt like that. the thermometer i use is them little circle ones from exo terra i hear there good. ive also heard that if u get a polystrene tile and stick the mat to that then onto the back of the viv this helps.Has anyone done this? or is there any over ways? please help

That kind of thermometer is only measuring the air temp, but what you need is one that will measure the temp of the substrate, one with a probe, perferably. I'm guessing it's already warm enough, as my UTH runs at about 100 degrees (mounted below, but measured directly above the glass). Middle of the substrate is around 92, and I'm thinking about a rheostat to adjust it a little lower. My corn stays on the cool side almost always.

Yeah, there a chance your toasting your snake.
Please get a thermometer with a probe on it. A indoor outdoor one sold almost anywhere. the probe is use to measure the out side temperatures. Your are just changing that a bit and placing the probe on the substrate above the uth which a hide should be. You are going to get two for both uth. You can still use your old thermometer and just place them around the cool area on the substrate. There is a great thread on how to make your own rheostat. You will need two of them too.

Good luck :santa:

Just wanted to say I know the thermometer she is using. You don't have to attach it to anything and you can place it on top of the substrate or even bury it down a bit. It may not be quite as accurate as a probe thermometer but I have found them to be darn close when you leave the back of the thermometer open and do not attach the velcro bit!! :)

I was under the impression that it was attached to the glass somewhere above the substrate..... my bad! Anyhoo, still seems like with 2 UTH's it would get way warmer in there than that....

They good be good thermometers but with two UTH something not working. Check the temperature on the UTH's maybe they are malfunction. But I would mainly think it's just the placement of the thermometer. You should use two of them.

Good Luck :santa:

update

ok so all this time ive had my snake ive been keeping the temp IN THE VIV at 80-85f on the warm side. I wasnt told its measured from the substrate, so ive sorted that now and on the warm side its about 82f. on the other side its 72f. in the middle of the substrate. is this right now?
