Hello all! Once again, as a newbie, I turn to you for advice. My girlfriends snow corn is displaying some unusual (for her) behavior. For the first time last night, she is climbing up a vine to the top of the cage, and wedging herself between the lid and the aquarium wall. She gets her entire body in this little crevous, and looks as if she is stuff (but I'm not sure... she will stay there for hours, so I don't know if she can get down or not). My girlfriend is worried that she is going to get stuck while we are gone and get hurt. My concern is that when I open the lid, she falls right to the floor. I'm scared she is going to get hurt. My crimson does not do this (yes, they are together in the same cage).

Like I said, I am a newbie and not familiar with corn behavior. This may be a completely part of "exploring", I don't know. I was wondering if she is trying to get away from my crimson. I'm willing to buy another 10 gallon for her to stay in. What do you guys think this is about, and what needs to be done (if anything). Thanks so much!

It's perfectly normal behavior - just make sure that lid doesn't have any holes or cracks in it (the kind that bend in the middle are bad IME)! They can get out of the smallest places. On the other hand I would suggest that you buy another cage and house them separately. There are many benefits including knowing when one is sick or regurged and not stressing them as much. Yes, it can be done successfully, but if you have the means I'd get the extra tank. Corns like hiding spaces (especially hatchlings) so for each to have their own place with multiple hiding spaces would be awesome. Good luck and have fun with your corns!

It's completely normal behavior, as corns seem to love to climb to the tops of aquariums and wedge themselves under the lid. Among other reasons it could definately be her trying to get away from the other corn. JMHO, if you can get another enclosure for for your g/f's snow, I'd do it. Corns can stress being in close proximity with each other, and the stress can affect your snakes in several different ways that may not be evident.

Housing together vs. separately is an issue that draws long, heated debates amongst keepers. I think one of the best posts on this would be http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17224
Good luck with them, and welcome both of you to the forums :)
