Trying to figure this out

drizzt_19

What goes here???
I need some help here. Please correct me if I am wrong. By breeding two corns both het for amel. and anery I would get

4/16 normal dh for snow
2/16 amel dh for snow
2/16 anery dh for snow
2/16 het for anery
2/16 het for amel
1/16 snow
1/16 anery
1/16 amel
1/16 normal

correct so far?
Now the questions is if I was to sell them, would I call the anery's and amels 66% possible dh for snow or not. Since there is 1 out of 3 amels and anery's is not dh for snow, because you can't tell which ones are dh for snow.I used a simple pairing so I would be able to figure this out and hopefully not confuse anyone. Please tell me if I'm right or wrong.

TIA

I'm burned out after that long reply I typed to someone on the BOI, but it seems you've got it right.

The anerys and amels, however wouldn't be designated as double het. After all, double het means that they are het for two traits. In this case, they're het for one, and homozygous for the other. They'd be referred to as anery het for snow & amel het for snow. Or, more accurately, anery het for amel & amel het for anery.

You are correct in that they'd be termed 66% possible hets if you were to sell them.

The normals, you could simply refer to as possible double hets, since "44% possible double het" doesn't quite roll off the tongue quite as easily.

By phenotypes (which is what you are able to see with your eyes when they hatch) you will (statistically) get:

1/16 snow

3/16 amel, each 66% poss het for anery

3/16 anery, each 66% poss het for amel

9 Normals, 66% possible het for anery, and independently 66% het poss het for amel.

This does not mean that each normal is 66% double het for snow, because each one is only 2/3 poss het for each trait, meaning they are only 4/9 possible double het for snow.

Since these traits sort independently, they are not simply 4/9 possible double het for snow, but instead independently 66% het for each trait. (see the difference? One can be het for amel but not anery and vice versa)

Personally, I would list them as:
Normal
66% poss het anery
66% poss het amel

:)

Thanks Serp and Ken. I thought I was on the right track. Ken ,yes that was a long reply on the BOI.

Thanks again
