Two handsome dudes (cresties)

hana

I put the 'pygmy' in ban.
I just had a few cresties shed for me, so I thought I'd post some pictures of my two favorite juvie males. They're growing like weeds, and I can't wait to see these two all grown up. :)

I just love the looks of this first little guy. This is almost as bright as he gets, and notice how the crests on his head are white/cream? I love that. :)

This next little fella gets quite a bit darker than this, but for four in the afternoon I guess he doesn't look too shabby. :)

The first picture shows his colors the best, by the last one he was beginning to go dull on me again.. *sigh* models...

CrazyCrestie, CrazyCrestie! :nyah: :grin01:

Those little guys are something else, Hana. So darned cool. :)

However, I have to wonder what wacky selective pressures guided their evolution. Do predators find them too cute to eat? Maybe what makes them so goofily cute (disproportionally large head and eyes), also tricks predators into thinking they're a larger animal. I dunno, but I'd definitely eat a skink first, myself...

hmmm.. Good question! My thought is that they mesmerize their attackers into a trance like state and fill their heads with whispers about eating all the ugly animals first.. :grin01:

Yeah, but he makes up for it with the tongue shot in the second picture. :)

Darn you, Hana. I'm off to re-reconsider cresties. UH-Gain! :sidestep:

awesome geckos! how much do they weight?

their main predators in the wild are ants. my question what make them so delicious to ants?

Thanks! :) I'd say they're both about 8 or 9 grams right now.. They're both still really young.

Maybe their soft skin maks them tasty to ants.. I could see how if an ant started chewing, it would be easy because it seems like their skin would split quickly..

Ants that eat animal matter tend not to be too picky about it. They'll eat whatever they can find and cut up with their mandibles. What kind of ants?

edited to add: Sorry, one track mind. Those little beasties are very cute!
