Two Northern Water Snakes

RedRaydin

Jason DeFreitas
Hey guys,

I didn't have time to grab my camera as I was in the middle of casting each time I saw one, but while I was fishing this morning at my local lake (Lake Mercer) I saw two northern watersnakes meandering right on in front of me in the water. Pretty cool site, these guys can really move. One of these days I'm gonna get some shots of these guys over here. I also saw a small fox hanging out on a small penninsula of land outside of a creek bed. Pretty neat as I've never seen one that close before. This lake is quite diverse as far as animal and reptile life is concerned. Like I said, next time I'll be sure to share photos.

Ps: This lake is in the Northern Virginia, Lorton/Fairfax area if any of you are interested in checking it out.

Jason, I grew up not too far from there in MD, and big northern watersnakes were all over the shoreline of the upper Chesapeake. Next time be sure to grab one, just for the experience ;) All kidding aside I'd love to have display setup with a pair someday. Not the prettiest or tame snake, but a real big northern is pretty impressive. My fishing buddy and I watched one drag @ a 4' live, struggling eel up on shore. Of course the snake won lol...

my friend wanted to know if a baby corn has a pinkie but he wants to know if he cuts it in half i said he should not cut it into 2 because its guts will fall out sorry to anoy you

I live in Virginia too, north of you, and do a lot of fly fishing around Harpers Ferry, WV on the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. I see Northern Water snakes there often, and I love trying to get pictures of all the wildlife I encounter while fishing. But I have yet to catch one of those on film!

Recently in Montana though I got a picture of this garter snake eating a fish!

Sweet pic! That's an awesome site. I always get mad when I'm getting skunked and see some sort of eagle, hawk, osprey, etc eating a fish lol. I'm like he can do it, what the heck?!?! Lol. Anyway that is a REALLY cool picture though. Yea, it's tough when your fishing because if you made a really good cast and then the opportunity comes along for a pic like this, you have to chose lol. Tough call, haha. How's the bass fishing there in WV? Where's the best smallie spots out there?

Here's one more of the snake/fish incident.

Smallmouth fishing has been slow and disappointing this summer. I'm ready for fall and winter trout.

I know what you mean, I've been out there in my favorite spot, catching just a few small smallmouth and I see an Osprey swoop down and haul off with a 15 incher. I hate that!

I won't bore the rest of the forum but email me if you want to talk some specific fishing spots...
