Two Snakes Missing in One Apartment

lumene

rebuilding my life
GAAAAAHHHHH!

One of my hatchies has been missing for almost a month and today I found that one of my tiny two year olds was missing...

Luckily the two year old was just located by my boyfriend behind our fridge- the hatchie is still AWOL.

I tried bottle traps and pinkies with heat pads to no avail thus far...

Any ideas for catching the little rogue?

I've heard that you can also try sprinkling flour around the walls of your home in the evening to see where s/he traveled, although I imagine that wouldn't work very well in carpeted rooms.

Yeah, we have carpet... and roaming pets- I've been keeping the cat more or less locked up for the last month, but the big problem is the new ferret...

I can only imagine a ferret with snakes! my cats go nuts over my snakes, I hope they settle down b/c it makes me mad.

I have to keep Penelope on a leash, or walk her outside until Bug is found (hatchling is my avatar).... I have confirmed that he hasn't left my apartment though, so he's gotta be somewhere....

I would check dark places around the house and areas with warmer temperatures. Especially appliances.

I am not experienced in this because I haven't had an escape(yet). But I have read that a lot of people have found escapees in drawers...even drawers you wouldn't think they could get into. I imagine they could get into just about any small spot in closets, clothes, boxes, etc. Good luck finding your baby!

Corny Apollo- My apartment sits at about 90F in winter, due to health issues cause I'm not supposed to live on the island.
I don't really have any hotspots other than fridge and stove, and I've pulled those away from the walls.

I am concerned though that he hasn't been coming out when I thaw the mice to feed the others, Keyhole has the strongest feeding response of my under two's- usually flying into the air to grab his pinkie.

Gotcha. :) I was merely offering what I would do in the situation, but my house IS typically colder. Have you gotten closer to having found the hatchling yet?

Hi,
Nope. When I get home today after caring for a couple of my off location snakes I'll be tearing the house apart.

At least he can thermoregulate though! The bedroom where my snakebabies are is cooler than the rest of the apartment. I just have this feeling that he is in one of the unpacking zones...

We had an escapee a few weeks ago. Was gone for about a week and we ended up finding him curled up in our wooden rocking chair under the pillows. My best advice is to look in soft, warm or dark places. I really hope you find him. good luck!!!

I found mine once under some pillows I'd thrown on the floor. The other 2 got out and fortunately I walked into the room practically the minute they got out, whew! I am more careful than careful now not to have that happen. It scares me so bad when it does.

I hope you find him.

I had only one get out, in 7 years, just once, I didn't even know she was out of her cage. I reached in my underwear drawer one night and pulled her out.

Have you tried tape traps? You are not the first person with an escape artist snake. I am firmly convinced that under the right conditions, corn snakes can generate wormholes. There are several threads on this forum about other's experiences with escaped snakes. i will try to post the links.

Haha,

I have tried painters tape, flour, bottle traps, pinkies near warm hides... Bug is just being a little bastard. He can jump Out of his tub during feeding time trying to get his pink.

Part of the problem is that I am still unpacking (even though I moved in July....). I've been settling for leaving water in every room, especially being in and out of the hospital since his disappearance.

I would like to thank everyone here for not calling me incompetent though, losing two snakes... at least one was found quickly... Send good thoughts my way and he'll probably turn up.. I hope...

I had 2 snakes get out of the 10gl tank, and that was the time I just happened to walk out in the kitchen before they got far. The male was on the floor and she was still up behind the tank but they both got out. I secured that tank immediately as it scared me to death!

Then I got a small snake and put it in a tote and I swear I put the lid on tight but he got out. That's the one that I found in my room under the pillows.

You aren't incompetent, the snakes are smarter, lol! I hope you find him! It's scary when they are gone.

You are not incompetent, it happens to everyone! I really do hope you find yours though. We gave my husbands little brother a corn and he lost it for 3 months, they actually found it in the washing machine, after a load was washed. That was like two years ago and it is still healthy as can be. Tough little guy.

For Asley's husbands brother's sake- I hope not.

For me- I really hope not. I am a student in an apartment in a not so pet friendly city. If the company finds out how many animals I have I'm in trouble. Actually, if the company finds out I have snakes its a probable 24 hour eviction notice... :S
