I've helped a number of people import corns into Canada (from all over Canada, not just local to myself), because I do have the ability to do it legally and for a very reasonable price. Oh yeah I wasn't really suggesting doing it for more than a couple snakes. That would look suspicious but I thought maybe if a pair was being bought it might not make them question so much. Believe me it was just a thought not that I am looking to put our hobby in further trouble.

Eeek! I'm sorry :s I didn't mean for it to come across that way, it's really not too difficult. I guess I do get defensive a bit because I constantly see people who are trying to get around the rules (I definitely don't think that is the case here though) so it does make me probably a little overbearing about it. That and a few of my really good friends are working to get Canherp up and going so that we can hopefully move past all of the recent black eyes that our hobby has suffered as right now the people "in charge" are really considering making some BIG changes and none of us want to see that, I don't want to see the time and passion they are putting into it to go to waste is all :)
All that said, please don't hesitate to ask if you need anything that I might be able to help you out with :)

Thanks! it wasn't anything you said..just dealing with customs (or anything government really) isn't a pleasure. I'm always one of those "randomly picked" people who get told to get out of my car so they can check it lol.

You will still need to book for a US F&W inspection at a cost of $186USD at the border to legally import any pet reptiles into Canada legally.

If the inspector deems it a commercial export (their call), then you'd be stuck needing to have your import/export license and possibly your DPEP permit as well.

Can't just pick up at a FedEx hub and drive across the border and pay your taxes. You have to pay attention to US export/wildlife laws as well.

We charge $300, as the inspection itself is roughly $200. Figured charging $100 for all the paperwork and the actual driving (gas) and clearing the shipment at the border would be reasonable....

To think that we're getting rich doing this, simply isn't the case.

Simply driving across the border, going to FedEx and bringing them home was never my plan, obviously there's more to it than that.

I've crossed the border and dealt with my fair share of border guards to know they aren't always friendly. I've been preparing for over a month for this, getting the paperwork..making phone calls etc. I'm aware you need to stop on the American side, with forms and receipts for inspections. Then you need to stop on the Canadian side and pay your dues. I don't expect it to be a walk in the park. My hope is that I've done everything correctly, and they get through. I want to experience the process myself so I can decide whether it's worth it or not to go and get them myself.

As for me saying the price of getting delivery was ridiculous, (I'm assuming that's why you replied to this because you wanted to explain how it wasn't) I'm glad that there are other methods to get our reptiles up north other than going to customs ourselves, and of course like any business you deserve to make money off of your services. And you're right, I now realize RE's price of dealing with customs isn't far off from what it would be anyway.

So for saying that, I apologize. Who knows, one day I may be calling you with my tail between my legs needing your services because my border crossing didn't work out.

Thanks for replying to these threads Sam! Your info is VERY helpful to show people that it really isn't all that "simple" at all.
 
Absolutely my pleasure!
The main reason I do it, is I don't want anyone to experience the harsh reality once they're at the border. It's a terrible experience at that point.

I've read all the information you've posted on this matter, and it's excellent! Thank you for taking the time to provide great info on it.
