(U.T.H ?) Zoo Med vs. T-Rex

CRIKEY!

I think the Zoo Med Repti Therm U.T.H. is widely used and it sounds very reliable. But I also came across the T-Rex Cobra Heat Mat. My biggest concern would be the safest one. Have you tried either one? Which one do you like?

BTW...I'm thinking of getting Zoo Med's Repti Temp 500R Therm/Rem Sensor for whatever U.T.H. I decide to buy. Does that sound good?

Thanks!:grabbit:

I've been using two small Zoo-Meds for over 3 years. Recently when I emptied the whole viv for cleaning I retested my set-up. Both heaters still maintained the same temp, a little lower around the edges, but pretty even in the main portion of the heaters. They both still maxed out at about 106F.
Can't tell you about the thermostat, I re-used an oil heater thermostat.

Thanks alan. How did you measure temp of your U.T.H.s?

I just moved the probe around and let it sit at each spot for a while.
My thermometer/hygrometer thingy has a high/low memory so I could leave it alone for a while and see the range at each spot. It's heating through a lexan plate, but I would guess the temp at the UTH/lexan interface is pretty high. When the temp on top is 106F it's probably at least 110-115 under it.

I've got *counts* 5 zoo med heat mats going in my house for herps. Granted I've only been using them since last april when I got my first set up ready, but I'm fairly confident that any of my UTH's will be Zoomeds.
I also have a few of the reptitherms. The only problem is if you actually want to hook two UTH's in the set ups should be absolutly identical (type of viv, size of heat mat etc) because otherwise it won't be able to regulate them both the way you want to.
Some people say they don't like the repti therms because they flucuate within a few degrees plus or minus of what you've set up, but I don't mind it at all. They're not at a constant tempature in the wild anyway :shrugs:
