ug exploding pinks??

carnivorouszoo

Crazy Critter Lady
I have 9 hatchlings, they have been offered food twice now. Both times 3 of the 9 pinks have had their guts pop out of the belly while the hatchling tried to eat. This causes the hatchling to spit out the pink and ignore it resulting in my removing it the next morning. These are not old pinks. I bred them myself and froze them properly. Never had this happen before. Each time I have been lucky and different hatchlings got the belly blowers than the last time. So 3 hatchlings that eagerly fed last time did not eat this time but the ones who did last time ate this time. Any ideas? My mice are not due for at least another week, so I am stuck with the pinks I have.Do I keep on my schedule or ?? They all look pretty good ;) Oh and I know its not regurged I saw it happen. These guys really want to eat, by the time I give the last one their pink the first has finished and I saw the explosions on both feed occassions. (BIG EW)

I'm surprised they don't eat the expoloded pinks. Any snake I have fed those to has eaten them, perhaps evemore eagerly.

I know, I find it strange, but as soon as it goes POP (yes I could hear it go pop--ew . . .) they spit it out and hide at the other end of their bins. I feel bad for them. And its not that they are too hot I do not microwave pinky water, just run the tap til its hot, let sit til defrosted, refresh the water and let sit til warm. Its perplexing since these pinks are from the mice that are due's last litters. Pulled them the day they were born, froze then vac sealed for freshness. :shrugs:

But am I right in thinking they should be fine until the next feed and just wait? It does not seem to put them off eating, just keeps them from eating this time around. . .I am feeding every 7 days and so far its turning out better. Last year I tried feeding every 5 days (was going to go to 7 once they were eating well) but only 2 ever ate for me. The rest were nonfeeders that wasted away. So seeing such good feed responses is great! I just hate to see the poor guys put off by exploding mice :awcrap:
