Ugliest Leopard Gecko in the whole world!

whippet

Tara
Given to Lauren by a student at the high school she teaches...we finally got some good pictures of Pepper. Anyone have a guess at the morph? I suck at Leo morphs...but ugly is the word we use. Poor thing...it's not her fault! She is very sweet and the kids that take her classes love her!

* Also ...notice she has some stuck shed on some toes. Any ideas for us? She has lost toes in the past..has no front claws left at all. The bad toes have several layers on the bad toes.
I have tried..soaking, putting her in wet moss for a good while, gently rolling the skin off...pulling off very tiny pieces, nothing has worked. At least one more toe is black and I know she will lose that one too. Any ideas for saving the others?

Poor thing. She looks well fed, but the missing fingers/toes (and so many) is quite sad.

My Leo's sometimes retain the sheds on the fingers/toes, so I set a few layers of warm damp paper towel into a container and set them inside (with holes of course), and lay the container on my heat pad (one that's used for humans, and has multiple temp settings). You may not have a similar heat pad, but as long as the pad doesn't get too hot (and you monitor it, it should be fine. It seems to work great, because the high humidity in the container seems to loosen the stuck shed very well. After twenty minutes or so, I remove the skin (very carefully).

I hope this helps any. It's kind of my own little remedy, but it works great for my guys.

Best of luck with her!

Hmmmm I have not tried adding heat yet to the moisture. We have no idea how long this has been a problem...but it definaly is an issue with her.

aww poor thing, poor toesies!

HOWEVER, i actually find her to be quite beautiful! that peppery look is awesome!

my suggestion for the stuck shed is not a nice one, but maybe put her in a shallow tub of water with some paper towel at the bottom, and let her soak her toes for awhile, and then attempt to gently pick the skin off with tweezers.

I'm no leopard gecko connoisseur; but I think my opinion might be particularly valuable then, since I imagine most people aren't. I think she's quite beautiful! I love the spots and her color. She's like a pink lemonade. I don't think most people know what a "beautiful" leopard gecko is supposed to look like, so she might as well be it!

:) :)

Ah, well, I tend to think all reptiles are beautiful, so my opinion might as well be just as invalid. Nevertheless she's a pretty girl!

I find that the heat coupled with the moisture makes a great de-shedder. It seems to moisturize the skin underneath much better, so the shed seems to virtually slip right off.
My Uromastyx gives me so much trouble when he's shedding than my other critters, because his shed skin is more like armor, and it's so difficult to peel just by soaking/bathing. So I also do the heat pad, moist paper towel tactic, and it loosens even his difficult sheds. I've also heard that you have to be very careful when bathing Uromastyx, as to not let them inhale water, so this also works to prevent that, from my experience.

By the way, she looks a lot like a Hypo to me (very similar to two of my Leo's). She's pretty as well, it will just take a little TLC for her to really look amazing. Kudos on the rescue!

I can see why you would think so...she has the look of a paradox snake, but I doubt it in this case. I think she is probably considered a bad patternless.

Well if you really think she is that ugly I could take her:wavey:

I think she's adorable. :) As for morphs, I'm thinking some kind of Mack Snow or Blizzard mix... definitely not a "prime" example, but she does have the speckled appearance of a Mack. I'm no expert, though!
