ultimate rookie question about aspen

darksidemike

Small Time Breeder
Is aspen for small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs the same as reptile aspen?
I only ask cause it seems so much cheaper to buy that aspen compared to snake aspen..
What could really be the difference? And why wouldn't they have pictures of snakes and lizards on the pack as well and have a bigger market for the same product? I know this is kind of a stupid question but I'm kind of a newbie and this is how you learn haha.. thanks everyone

Yes it is pretty much the same. You often find snake aspen is shredded and rodent is chipped but my snakes could care less. I say save money and get the rodent.

Not that I am an expert on this at all, lol

But I did read about this on another post on this site; I read that a lot of the rodent brands ie, Kaytee and others that say "aspen" also tend to have other wood types mixed into them.. I'm sure that you could always read the ingredients to make sure, But this is just what I have read before.

Just thought that I would put my two cents in! :)

Cheers

You do want to read them because those that say blends or anything often have pine or ceder as well. So it is important to pay attention to the label.
