Under tank heater...

Anyone know of an UTH that can be switched from my hatchlings 10gal to his adult tank? I've had maize for almost 2 weeks now, and have been using a heat lamp to bring tank temp up to around 90deg. for two days after he eats, (normal tank temp is roughly 80deg. (hot side)), but I would prefer to switch to a UTH soon, so as not to have to worry about the light being on too long and making it too hot, plus I like the idea of the substrate being warmed. But since these bloody UTH cost $20 a pop, I really don't want to buy one to stick on the bottom for 10 months. Any ideas? Thanks

I have one that I didn't peal off the UTH sticky but I apply duck tape and taped it to the bottom of viv that way. I now have two snake so it stay with the smaller viv. The only thing is that they might need a larger heated area as the grow. so a UTH for a ten gal viv might not work on a twenty .

First, what kind of thermometer are you using to measure temps? If it's not a probe type thermometer it's probably not that accurate. If you aren't using the probe type thermometer, your temps are most likely higher than you think they are (surface temps that is). If you let us know how you're measuring the temp it will help some.

I realised that a ten gallon version prob. wouldn't work for adult tank, so i decided to stop being cheap, and just buy a small one now, and one that fits properly when the time comes! Thanks for your advice!
