Just another Florida guy
I put a pair together several weeks ago and there's been no hubba hubba that I am aware of. Both of these are unknown hets and though she supposedly laid eggs (slugs) with her last owner, to my knowledge neither of these large adults are proven. No yellowish stains & no obvious coupling. She was in blue a couple of days ago so her shed is imminent. Should I remove him until after she sheds? As a rule do you remove/reintroduce the male every week or so?
I've another pair I want to put together but wanted this first pair to breed first. I think I should go ahead with the second pair even though I didn't want them to be my first clutch.
As always, any constructive input is appreciated.

Most I have read put them together for a few hours every 3 days. One person said thay put them together until they see evidence of a good hookup and that is it, just one. I read about someone who leaves them together until the female is obviously gravid. I think it is up to you and how well you can watch them. Me, I will use the one hookup then done method when I breed in the future. Going off my accident this year, it seems to be all they really need.

I left mine together over night. The female wasn't showing signs of interest but the male was going nuts haha. Try to wait until she sheds then try. Leave them together overnight too. I new mine did the deed because I put then together twice and both times I found sperm on the bin in the morning. My girl is about to drop hopefully in a few weeks.

I'd remove the male and then put them back together after she sheds. I do mine every three days. It may take her a long time after the shed, maybe a week or more, to decide she's in the mood, or she may be the same day.

Are you sure your male is a male? Double check to make sure. That was my problem last year.

I got bit by the whole proven, bit, possitive, etc. I then paid 10$ to get it sexed when they weren't breeding. It was sexed wrong again. I then learned how and during my lesson with a local breeder, I discovered my female was a male.

lol it happens to the best of us. My Striped Amel was sold to me as a female and ended up being a male. All is good because I get 1 full clutch and two half clutches from him lmao

Thanks all, I shall remove him until after her shed and will leave her shed in the viv for now. I just noticed he's blue and she's clear now.
When I reintroduce him I"ll try it in small doses...few hours, overnight, etc.
Will keep y'all posted!

I had gender changes happen all over my lot. Both Amels were sold as female and both turned out male, Brass was sold as male but it obviously female, my darkling was sold male but probed female. The only ones that probed as was sold is my bloodred male and my amel mot het caramel stripe.

Well I went to take him out last night and she had shed while I was lurking around here lol. So I left him in overnight and all day today but now I think it best to remove him for a day or two, I'll try to feed them both and see, then return him in a few days.

What are you using for bedding in the breeding tub? If aspen it may get covered up. Its good you're giving them a rest and reintroducing in a few days. Best of luck to you.
