Can someone please help me and give me advice. I have a female who lives in its own tank. I did not breed her or put her with another male at any time. She was fine this afternoon... but I went to check on her and now she has 10 eggs in one corner of her tank. Her skin color is a little off and she is VERY thin near her head. I'm afraid something is wrong. I dont know why she is laying eggs... and I dont know what to do if she is having problems. She is SOOO thin near the head.... she looks almost like how she did when she was a year old.... She is now 3 years old. The rest of her looks normal sized... but its just off color... almost blueish...I tried counting the bumps on her body... and I can see there is one trying to come out... its a huge round buldge. It looks like she possibly has four more coming.

I didnt know that non-fertalized females would ever lay eggs? What should I do? Is she having problems?!

please help!!!!

I'm not an expert on hatching eggs/breeding corns at all but I would make sure that she has plenty of water. That seems to be one of the things that is often suggested. Other than that I'm sure one of the people with more experience will be along sometime to help.

Females do NOT have to be in contact with a male in order to lay eggs. They are not like mammals in this since they lay the eggs and they develope outside of the mother. They produce the eggs, which are at that time follicles, and if a male breeds her and fertilizes them, then she will lay fertile eggs. But if a male does not breed her, she can either reabsorb the follicles or lay them as she would if they had been fertilized only they will be infertile eggs (slugs).

It is a normal thing to happen and should be fine. It is normal for them to look a bit bedraggled after laying their eggs, especially those that go off feed early on in the "gestation" time.

Don't worry about it. After she is done laying her eggs, let her be and rest. Put some water near where she is resting so she doesn't have to move to get a drink and offer her a small mouse tomorrow. Don't fret if she turns down the food for a couple days. Some of them eat very shortly after laying and others wait a couple days. Just make sure her temps and such are all proper and she will bounce back from this.

Good luck. :)

She has laid 20 so far... and still going

Thanks for the advice! She seems to still be going at it.... She has already laid 20 eggs... and I can visibly see 3 more inside that she is trying to push out. I can't believe she had all those eggs inside her and I didn't even know? I thought she was just fat because I fed her so much. But she still seems to be going at it, so that makes me feel better. At least they are not stuck. I will give her plenty of water and try to feed her when she is finally done laying all her eggs... she must be exausted.
