Right now the central Florida winter is kind of a joke although some nights its been getting chilly. Right now I have the heater planed in the middle of the tank, which doesn't seem cause for concern. She seems to stick near it but not on it. I was also told to avoid placing the heat pad near a water source, which she does on her own accord. I also keep a small blue towel over the screen with some opening for air to keep humidity in.

Move the heater to one side so there is more of a gradient between hot and cold spots. You could probably just turn the heat off and brumate your snake through the winter. Brumation generally involves lower temps and no meals, just water being provided for the winter months. Since corns are local for you, it would probably be more natural. Check your temps and if the hot end of the tank is over 82-85 degrees then it's too hot and corrections need to be made even if you're not going to brumate.

Hope that helps!
