UTH question (pretty urgent)

If you start seeing condensation or a light fog or the substrate feels damp, you're definitely too high, but otherwise, I'm sure it's fine. Aspen usually keeps stuff pretty dry.

You're reading 70% because it's raining outside and the humidity out there is 100%. Don't worry about it.

whats your temp under the substrate over the UTH?

crap

i just checked the temperture again and on the warm side its about 92...which is too hot isnt it.

Is there any way to lower the temp, since its an UTH?

You don't need to keep making new threads for these questions.

Anyway, as already posted in the other thread, 92 is a little high. You should get a thermostat or a rheostat/lamp dimmer to lower the UTh temperature. Unregulated UTHs can get to over 120 degrees which IS far too high.

You can get a Zoomed 500R thermostat for 22.99 plus shipping at reptiledirect.com. That would be the best option. Or for less money you can buy a lamp dimmer from walmart for about $8. With a lamp dimmer you would still have to check it often as the room temperature changes. With a thermostat it adjusts itself once you have it set properly.

Is it attached directly to the bottom of the tank, or do you have it attached to something else and placed underneath. I attach all mine to a piece of glass so that I can change tanks if I need. What you could do for now, is place a thick layer of newspaper and tape it down. Then put the substrate over that. It should insulate enough to keep it from getting too warm. The tape will be fine if you get a good contact and the substrate will keep any edges that get loose from sticking to the snake. You want to make sure it's secured down so that the snake doesn't go under the paper and lay directly on the uth.

okay

so should i do that tonight

or do you think it will be okay to wait until tomarow or tuesday to get the rheostat?

I mean when i feel the bottom of the tank it doesnt feel too hot, but it still says 91

It's the temp under the hide on the warm side that is important. What doesn't feel too hot to you is too hot for the snake. I would just put the newspaper layers in there until you can get the rheostat for it. I think I paid $16 for the cheap zoo med rheostat.

okay

maybe until tomarow or tuesday when i get the rheostat i'll move the hide to the warmish/cool side, where its not too hot, but not as cool as the cool side. PLus right now hes curled up in the hide on the warm side, but above the substrate
