I finally got a new thermometer for my viv. Its getting too cold in there at night. So I got a Zoomed UTH. I mounted it on the side at 8:00 last night. Woke up worried it got too hot cause I didn't get a thermostat. But the temp said only 65 degrees!! I bought the one that is for my 50 gal tank. Surely something is wrong with the UTH or is it not capable of putting out enough heat to make it 80 degrees? I have her light on now so she'll be fine today but what do I do for tonite?
 
First, mount it under the tank not the side and get a thermostat or rheostat. By itself, it will easily reach 100 degrees.
 
Is the thermometer one with a probe? Zoomed makes a good probed one, I have seen it on amazon. If so, the probe should be under the substrate.
 
Thank you. I put it on the side because I have my viv on a solid table. That's what was recommended. Can I still move it? Yes I do have a probe with the thermometer. I didn't know I had to put in substrate. I'll do that. So putting the UTH on the bottom of the tank will give me more heat?
 
I think you can remove the UTH. It should not burn your table with a thermostat. 80something degrees shouldn't do any damage.
 
Now...I'm trying to find a thermostat at local retailers! Driving me crazy. Been on her for hours looking for the local stores. I give up. So....what is a good place to buy online? Is the zoomed 500 a good thermostat? Thanks for all the info.
 
When I get a UTH, I am planning on purchasing a Hydrofarm MTP(all these other letters) from Amazon. Lots of people on here reccomend them, but they don't exactly come cheap (at least compared to the thermometers), they're like $33. Read some of the reviews and a few are from reptile owners.
