UV lighting and blindness ??

UV lighting can cause blindness in corns ??.How on earth is this possible ?.UVA and UVB spectrum light is EVERY WHERE.Some places stronger than others of course,,but from a light on a tank ??.
What am I missing ???.

Where did you hear this from??

The only thing I can think is that excessively strong lighting in an enclosed place may damage their eyes, as wild corns are not typically active for extended periods during the very brightest times of the day, preferring to prowl about at sun-up and sun-down.

Then again, most corns I have seen are in hiding during the day, so.... :shrugs:

This mabe true if their is no photo period and you have full spectrum lighting. Make sure their are timers on your lights giving your snakes a proper photo period. Also it is unneccessary to use this type of lighting on snakes becasue they dont need the lighting. So if you can you should avoid lights on your tanks. Under tank heat pads are best.

No light at all ??,,you gotta have some light. If you can't get sun lighting, then you should supply something, right ??.
Someone comes over to your house and happens to ask,"whats in that dark, dead looking tank over there ?"..
I think my tank looks great lit up.Oh,the whole blinding thing came from something I read on the Health/treatment board.

IMO, UV light is not necessary to use with any snake, since the vitamin, vitamin D, some reptiles and birds produce from exposure to UV light is obtained through the food the snake ingests. Additionally, UV light can be damaging to the eyes of albino snakes, as it can be to just about any albino animal. Normal snakes are not so suspeptible to the effects of UV light.

I wouldn't use a UV light at all with any albino snake.

You can try a black light incandescent bulb. It will put out very low levels UVA (less harmful than UVB) light and good amounts of heat.
