Vermiculite discontinued?

Still looking

I found Sphagnum Peat Moss. Is this okay? It's more of a soil, but it retains moisture pretty well so far. I decided against the Perilite based on everyone's answers, but still haven't found vermiculite. Never heard of Sutherland's. I've been to 3 different home depots, a Lowe's, Fred Meyers and even Walmart and nobody seems to carry it. I have 16 beautiful eggs so I hope they all turn out okay regardless of all the trouble I'm having in finding a suitable substrate for them.

i have had similar results to you looking for the vermic ... i'm in corvallis ... i was thinking of maybe calling Coastal Farms ... i know there are a few in portland, they might have it I know that they have some gardening stuff. also maybe an acutal nursery might have some ... if you've been to that many places it might be a good idea to call a few before going out again.

My Home Depot had 4 cu. ft. bags of coarse vermiculite last month, but not so sure about now. There are loads of on-line gardening sources. I'm sorry to hear you're stranded without...I've got two bags in the yard from gardening last year, and plan to buy more right away.

Perlite has always worked for me. I've never tried vermic and don't plan to. For Perlite, forget the big chain stores and go to a garden nursery. They will have it.
