VERY Bad Day

I'm so sorry, Trevor! I can't imagine what you're going through. I hope your MBK's are ok. I still have that girl for you when you're ready. Let's just split shipping and see what we get next spring, ok?

I'm so sorry to hear this. I wish there was something to say or do that could get rid of that awful feeling in the pit of your stomach! I hope the ones that were looking unwell pull through.

Thanks everyone.
I am actually quite surprised that this happened. I wouldn't think that the temp that my room got to would be deadly. But I might not have had the most accurate readings where my thermometers were, and I do know that when I was watching temps really close in the summer, it tended to be hotter in the enclosures than outside of them. I'm not sure. I just wish that it hadn't happened.
I had a co-worker that this happened to a couple of weeks ago. She lost a whole litter (32) of Boas that were born 3 days earlier as well as many more. For some reason I've been hearing about this happening a lot this year.

Havn't been a member long enough to know you like thothers do, but I am so sorry that happened to you!

I incubate in my iguana's room & keep a heater in there. I had the door open just a little & had teh heat regulated just right. Well, my roommate's dog went in there & managed to shut the door. I don't know how long she was in there (couple hours I guess) or how long the room took to heat up, but it was 98 when I fianally went up there to see why the "iguana" was making such a ruckus (it was Sadie trying to get out). She was very hot & I thought for sure I lost all my babies. Most hatched, but I got some with kinks. Not sure if it was from that or not as i had never used teh male before.

Your post just brougth back the same feeling of horror that I felt when iwalked into that hot room! Good thoughts are sent your way for the remaining snakes.

Let me add my condelences on the losses :( Twelve is a lot, but with 120, wow, it could have been alot worse. Hopefully it won't set back any of your projects too much.

My thoughts are with the others that might still be a little shakey.

Man that sux Trev!
Let us know if you need any thing, or a snake to barrow to fill in for any of your projects.

I want to throw in my sympathies too, Trevor. To have 12 animals die who had presumably been fine in the morning, just for trying to keep them warm enough...I can't even imagine that. Of course, I've only had animals as pets, so I get very attached, but I know it's terrible regardless. Best of luck with the ones you said were struggling, and all the rest that made it.

I just got to this thread, and this is horrible Trevor! 12 is still a big loss, but it definately could have been a lot worse. I too have been hearing of things like this a couple times this year. Hopefully the survivors pull through with no problems, and recover quickly for you. I am sorry that this happened to you :(

That's terrible! I'm so sorry for you. As it's been said before, 12 is a hell of a lot to lose...but it could have been much worse. If I had any help to offer I'd offer it...as it is, my condolances will have to do. :(

So sorry to hear about it Trev. Hope it's not going to set any breeding programs back too much.

I feel for you, that's just an awful thing to come home to. :( I hope the rest of them bounce back for you and sorry for your losses.

Ouch...I am sorry to hear all that Trevor. I just had to hook up my thermostat last week so that my heat tape would kick in. before I did that, I checked over everything and found a few spots where the tape had been worn and got shorted. wouldn't have been pretty. I also turned on the CHE's over my Boa and BP cages. Went in about 3 hours later and the BP cage was reading about 101. Both the BP's made it, but it was a giant scare.

Thoughts are sent your way.

12? How horrible, I know losing just one hurts, but at least the majority of your cirtters survivied. Are the ones that were looking unwell recovering for you?

That stinks! I hope that never happens again.

P.S., if the space heater did that, I have a suggestion: get a thermostat like a Ranco or Johnson to control it. I think it will stay within a degree or two to whatever you set it.

Trev, I can't begin to imagine how you are feeling tonight, I don't think I can even relate to the number of lost in all honesty... I can well imagine you are angry, like I was, way earlier this year when I lost one of my key future breeders who was growing so nice.. I didn't sleep that night, nor did I sleep very well for the next few days after... There was a bright spot though, and it was the support of my friends from this site here and knowing that the people here are kind enough to make the offers they do without thinking twice about it..

However so, I know this is a temporary set back for you, as we are all pulling for you in the long haul... I sincerely hope the rest of the collection will pull through for you..

Go and get yourself a 12 pak of Blue Moon, and slowly dismantle the thermostat with a small 32oz ballpien hammer.. Certainly after thrashing the thermo stat for a while, a Blue Moon drowning session would be much welcomed.. Drink one for me too!

Regards.. Tim of T and J

Blue Moon.. Only Trevor likes that stuff... And maybe Reena. ;)

Trev, I'm sorry to hear that.. I'll come tell you in person later on in the week or something, but here is the pre-emptive sympathy.
