When commenting to a worker at superpet that their snakes were super active and really healthy and that mine was very healthy but hid quite a bit, they asked me hide questions and stuff ( my cage has three different hides in different areas of the tank that are different shapes and dimensions) and then they asked me if the tank had a backing to it and that this might help it feel more secure as well as getting some fake plants and stuff, is this true?

maybe

I cant say as an absolute that the info is true, however when I put a foresty looking background on my corn's cage. she definatly took notice of it, and spent time crawling up the back of the cage lookin for a way into the "plants" depicted in the picture.

I added a fake rock wall to the back of the tank and my snake seems to be out and about a lot more now. He is constantly climbing all over it.

In quite a few of the caresheets for corns, it recomends that two or three of the cage sides be blocked off. I think it makes them feel a little more hidden and protected, as most snakes are fairly secretive creatures.
