Viv On The Floor???

Hi, i was wondering if anybody knows of any serious downsides of having a viv on the floor.

Is it worse than having it on a table etc. and why
(vibrations etc)

I have searched, but i cannot find anything on this topic

so please pros and cons of keeping a viv on the floor and on a table
 
if you have other animals its goot to keep it on a table or little kids. other ya what ever is best
 
One of my vivs is on the floor (don't have a table big enough for it) but because I use a UTH, I have it on bricks (raised slightly).
 
If you have a dog you'll end with nose prints on it if you dog is anything like mine.
 
i personally built the viv for my snake it is 40" x 40" x 17" and sits on the floor of my upstairs den. yes i have kids no other inside pets though. the vibrations dont seem to be a problem. when ready to feed or drink or poo she will readily come on out.
 
OK, i dont have any dogs or cats, but i do have a baby sister. This wont be a preoblem though as she cannot climb the stairs into my room.


I hame my viv on the floor, but on four felt pads, to kinda lessen the vibrations coming through.

Should be ok then Kriz, my only concern is direct sunlight in your room (i don't get any so i' can put them anywhere) as it might fry your snake in the summer.
 
Nah, no direct sunlight in my room, i only have small velux windows, and none shine on him, thanks for your concern :)
 
My only observation about having your viv on the floor would be to raise it a couple of inches or more to allow some air flow.

I had a glass bottomed viv that had a UTH attached to the underside and the glass cracked when it was in direct contact with the floor.

I replaced the glass and raised it off the floor a few inches and haven't had a problem since.

I may have just been unlucky but thought it was worth a mention.
 
If it's wood, then I would get a flow of air going on underneath it just to stop the base maybe getting damp over time and rotting.

Any dampness will also cause mold.
