Viv setup/heating question

This is our setup as we have it now before we bring the snake home tomorrow. Please comment if you see anything that needs tweaking or changing.

Also, I have another question about heating. The temp on the cool side is fine ranging from 69-74. The thermostat probe directly above the UTH secured to the glass is fine too at 82-86. My question is the temperature inside the warm side hide. When I first started measuring, it was registering about 77. I thought maybe the aspen was too thick inside, so I removed some of it and the temperature rose to 79. Are these acceptable levels for inside the warm hide? I do understand that the snake can always burrow towards the glass if it wants more heat, but just want to know what is acceptable for on top of the substrate inside the hide.

Thanks a bunch.

All you really need to worry about is the temp over the UTH on the glass. If the glass under their warm hide is 82-87 you're good. Like you said, they will move substrate to get to the temperature they want.

Be careful about having it by the window. Those tanks can heat up quickly (kinda like a car in the sun....)

That was the first thing I thought too. The tank needs to be away from the windows, that will heat it up like an oven.

Your temps are right on with the UTH, though, and your snake will move substrate around to find the most comfortable temp for them. One of mine hates the substrate and clears it out of her hide on the cool side and lays directly on the glass, my boy likes a pile of substrate on the cool side.

Just find a place in your home where the tank is in a consistent temperature and that way it will be easier to manage the temps.
