Well I know you shouldn't use any kind of pine wood or cedar wood...As they can be harmful to the snake..and I've noticed a lot of people use plexi glass when making their vivariums..just do a search on the forum for making a vivarium and I'm sure you'll come up with some pretty helpful matches..good luck to ya :0)

I also eventually plan to make my own vivarium..but not for my snakes..it'll be for my uromastyx once he gets to big for his current tank.

When I had a friend make me some, we bought melamine from B&Q for the floor, top and two sides. We then bought a sheet of thinner "crazy paving" patterned kitchen flooring for the back. All of this is water resistant and won't need varnishing, but damp can creep into the joints, so if you want the thing to last as long as possible you can seal joints with an aquarium sealant.

I don't know what sort of glass he used for the sliding doors, but that was cut to size by a glazier.

I made my garters viv from 3/4" malimine, plexiglass and some white calking in all the corners...
