W00T First Succesful Shed!

This is the first time my corn has shed right. He has failed it one before in my care. The shed came out whole, with eye caps and the very last part of the tail still on. I used a humid shed box and his skin literally fell off when he decided to shed. I didnt even find it in a place where he was rubbing against.

Thanks to Don Soderburg of SMR for teaching me about the shed boxes!

What is a good way to make a Humid shed box??
My snake hasnt shed yet but should be very soon.

Matt

First start with a container that your snake can get in but isnt too huge. It's best if it's plastic, as cardboard may absorb the moisture. Cut a hole in the side big enough for the snake to enter, and as with the container, make it a little bit larger than your snakes biggest width. Cut a few, but not too large, air holes in the top. This way if the snake or substrate you put in it covers the entrance there is other scources for air. Because of this, I reccomend using a lid on your shed box, more on that later. Fill it with wet paper towels or moist sphagnum moss, and put the lid on, but dont snap it down, just leave it restng on the top. This lets your snake escape if for some reason it cant find the exit, but also seals in the humidity. Also, if youre snake is determined not to go in it, then you can open the lid and put him in.

Use:
1. Place in tank towrds the end of your snakes blue period.
2. If the snake dosen't want to go in, put him in and place the shed box in his hide, being careful not to block the lid from opening, or blocking the exit/entrance hole.

Good Luck, Hope this Helps!
