Severus has been home with me since Saturday. He was due to feed the day I brought him home, but it was skipped due to his being moved to my place. He's ate great before, so hopefully that trend continues! Haven't seen much of him except for when I peer down into his cave hide while changing or adding more water. All I'm doing is looking down from the top to make sure he's still there. Not touching it at all. Trying to disturb him as little as possible. He's definitely moved around as he's gone from his warm hide to his cool hide, unobserved unfortunately. The thought that he might be coming up on a shed has crossed my mind (not that I can tell from looking at him though since I can hardly see him). Just sort of guessing since he's 5 weeks old tomorrow and shed shortly after he was born. Kinda hoping that come this Saturday I find that he has.

My question: Saturday after I'm home from work (I'll be home a little after 8 PM) I was going to try and get a closer look at him to see if he's showing signs of being in the blue. If he's not, I can go ahead and attempt to feed him, right?

Yep, handling and feeding a week after arrival should be fine! A delay if he's blue shouldn't be a problem for him.

The waiting is hard. You so want to know that they will eat. I've got one a bit more that 2 weeks ago that still won't eat. I'm going to try the splitting next time on a very small pinkie. First one that has refused to eat two weeks in a row.

@bitsy Thanks! So nervous to hold him again. I know I have to be ready and confident, so I'm trying to get over that now!

@Pugsley It definitely is! I did see him peeking out of his hide this evening when I walked into my room. The second he saw me he bolted though. :sidestep: Still was nice to see him since he peeked out, instead of me peeking in.

Have a red night light that I have clamped all the way at the top of my vanity that I think I'm gonna put on tomorrow night once I'm home from work, then I'll just watch him and wait. Lol.

Do you have lots of vines and artificial leaves/plants that he can climb in? Baby snakes like to be out, where they can watch you, but you can't see them. You might see more of him if you provided a leafy environment.

I have 2 climbing branches with plants wrapped around each of them and a little corner hammock that is covered with some of the plants. Think I might get one more plant just to keep on the ground in front of the tank, but I/m not completely sure. Just got home from work a little bit ago (14 hour day - wooooo) and he was chilling with his tail on the hammock and he was just laying out on the aspen. :). Didn't retreat the moment he saw me either. Took a couple minutes until he decided to go back to his hide. Think he's just needing to warm up.

Here's a pic of my viv.
