Want A Corn Snake

Oh.. and i want to take some pics of him. Does anyone know if the flash of the camera hurts their eyes('cause he's an amel, and has those really orange/red eyes.. which i'd imagine are sensitive..)? He's already a jumpy little guy, i don't want to scare him.
 
Ok. So, i've fed him two pinkies and he seems to have kept those down fine(gobbled 'em up really fast, too). So.. while i'm feeding him two at a time, would feeding him every 5 days be a good?

That's the schedule I use when feeding two pinks. Once they move up to fuzzy, I go to six days, then seven when they are either eating two fuzzies or larger.
 
This guy's been eating fine and keeping everything down. The only thing that concerns me is that after i have him out for a little while, he'll start to get jumpy. At first he'll just casually crawl around, but after a five or ten minutes he sometimes starts to move faster, or starts to try to get away. He's almost fallen a few times because he'll crawl outward, away from me, where there's nothing to crawl onto. Sometimes he doesn't seem to realize that he'll fall if he keeps going the way he's going. There was one time that he was trying to get away, then kind of freaked out and starting thrashing around. Should i just put him up when i notice him starting to get nervous, or keeping holding him so that he he'll learn that holding is okay?

I always hear people say that the babies can be really nervous, so i hope this is normal behavior that will eventually be calmed with regular handling? He hasn't bitten or struck at me at all yet, though. So i guess that's a good sign?
 
That's pretty normal. Try what I do with babies: curl him around your fingers, and let him crawl over them. Keep putting the fingers from either hand in front of him and keep him wrapped about them. He'll think he's getting somewhere, but he's just treading water. I find this a good method for getting them used to being handled.
 
I think he might shed soon.. When i handled him today, his coloring seemed a little different. But it might just be my imagination.. When i've seen other snakes in shed, i can usually tell right away because of the blue eyes. But i've never seen an amel about to shed before.. Anyone have any pics of what an amel look like when its' getting ready to shed?

Ok. So, for the past couple days i've been a little concerned. I saw a mite on him the other day, got it off, and checked him over. Nothing else. But then again today i saw another one(again, i got it off and then checked him over. didn't see anymore). After the the second one, i'm thinking that i should do some kind of mite treatment. What's the best thing to do for mites?

Also, yesterday i heard him sneeze a couple times when i had him out. And today i heard him do it again. At least, a sneeze is what it sounds like(maybe its' something else?). Yesterday was the first time i ever heard him do it. I do think he might be about to shed.. so, could that have anything to do with it(he's also a little less active)? Or is there anything i should try to do? I looked up some stuff about respiratory infections that said to turn up the heat a little, so i did that just in case. But he doesn't have any other symptoms... like open-mouth breathing, mucous, or loud breathing.
 
Yay! I'm so happy. He shed today, and is back to acting like my hyper little baby. So at least now i know why he was acting strangely, and will know what to look for next time(even though, although i saw him everyday, i never saw a change in eye color). Most of the shed was in one piece, the head and body. But he has a little still left on his tail. I rubbing his tail with a wet paper towel a little bit. I guess once he dries he'll probably get it off himself?
 
If you leave it on it can restrict blood circulation and the tail tip can die. You could try a wet washcloth in a tub for an hour or so, it usually works well
 
I checked on him about half an hour after i wiped his tail down with a wet paper towel. And he had peeled most of it back himself. So i took ahold of it and peeled what little bit was left on the tip of the tail off. It was pretty easy, since all the skin that was left came off in one piece.

And now he looks bright and super-pretty :)
