OK, I posted this in the Husbandry section, but I'm moving it here because it's about a hoggy instead of a Corn.
I'm trying to deal with a non-eating hognose, and the first thing I have to do is get the temperatures in his viv right. The warm end is on a thermostat at 85F so there's no problem there, but I live in quite a cold house, and no matter what I do, I can't get the temperature at the cold end above 65F during the day, and it might even drop further at night.
Firstly, is this likely to affect my hoggy's desire to eat, since the warm end is OK and he can move to and from it as he wishes?
Secondly, if it is a problem for him, how can I get the temerature up where it should be? Will I need to use a second heat mat with a thermostat at a lower temp, or set up some sort of heat lamp?
Any help would be appreciated! I keep getting conflicting advice from the vet, other reptile owners, the shop where I brought him, etc!!
