I am going to get a corn soon and was wondering the following...I have heard that it is risky giving a corn tap water because of the additives in the water (ie chlorine) and that you should give your snake bottled water. Is water a big issue? what about collected rain water? I would rather not pay for bottled water every week if I do not need to. thanx all.

If you let the tap water stand for 24 hours I believe the Chlorine evaporates away, in saying that I bought an inexpensive Brita water filter jug and give my little guys (and me too) filtered water.

Well its your choice on the tap thing. I give all my snakes tap water and never noticed any ill effects. They poop in it half the time, would get crazy if I had to keep filling up and cleaning with bottled water.

If its just one snake, a gallon jug of bottled spring water here is cheap as can be. So it wouldn't be all that expensive. I only change water weekly unless they poop in the bowl, so anything more than that would be wasteful I'd think.

I wouldn't recommend rain water as it has unknown amoebas and other little critters in it that could make your snake sick. Not to mention, rain water would be more polluted nowadays than tap water, I'd reckon.

All of mine get tap water, and like Bug, I have yet to notice any ill effects with my snakes health. All of my pets, with exception to our bird, gets tap water and ditto for them.

Letting typical tap water set in an open container overnight will rid 99% of the chlorine out. Which is why water that's fresh out of the tap smells the strongest.

water

I purchase a bulk supply of water bottles for me anyway. I have a few by the viv for use for the snake. You can also purchase in your petstore a dechlorinator for your water that is reptile friendly if your water in your town has excessive amounts of chlorine in it.

I just use tap water, and haven't had any issues. But I know some areas have better water than others. If I start to see any issues, I'll make the switch, but figure it hasn't hurt any of the human or 4-legged furry critters in the house in all the years we've been drinking it, so how bad can it be? Some of the "bottled water" is just tap water with a label on it anyway.

I use the water from my under the sink triple osmosis unit. I wouldn't drink the water out of my tap, let alone let my animals! My county has also gone to chloramines instead of chlorine to purify the water, and that additive is hazardous to reptiles and fish. So.....no tap water for mine, not even to thaw the mice anymore.

I think most water systems use chloramines nowadays... and FYI chloramines dont evaporate out of the water you have to use a conditoner. that being said I use tape water and I dont see any problems. :)
