Hello all. Figured I would finally say hi and say a little about myself since I’ve been reading here a while, as well as hoping to be a part of what looks to be an excellent community. 23, live in New Mexico at the moment. Currently active duty Air Force, was a military brat growing up too. We always had lots of pets around the house since I can remember. All sorts of them, family friends would always refer to our house as the zoo since we had so many. This caused me to grow up with a love for animals, not just dogs, cats, and the occasional gold fish but parrots, mice, iguanas, live corals(not really a pet I guess but still cool as hell) and whatever else. Thing is I couldn’t ever get a snake due to the whole ‘gross & slimy’ bit =[. Still managed to get an iguana somehow though >.>; Recently moved out the dorm into my own place and it was time to look for a pet =p. Went out looking for a Bird due to the fact that I missed my bird, it died at home while I was in the dorms here ; ;. Looking around I didn’t really find much of a selection for birds so my old interested sparked back up when I saw a gorgeous blood python. Went on a highly spirited hunt through the internet, and well … managed upon yall soon enough ;)

I haven’t yet purchased my snake, though I am setting up my viv now. Sadly, the breeders wont be distributing for another month at least. My hopes are set on getting a creamsicle or lavender. I am however torn between waiting or just getting a normal from a local dealer.

It would seem I have a bit of a thing for making long posts ... i held back ... honest ... >.>;; … meh =p

hope to get to know you all better ^^

Hello, welcome to the forum! And welcome to the snake addiction :p
Don't be afraid to ask questions, everyone here is friendly and willing to help out. Also, there is a search feature at the top. You can use that to search for quick answers to your questions. ;)
Good luck, and see you around.

I'd wait to get a snake from the dealer! Yea I know its hard but they are usually better off from breeders.

Welcome aboard! And yes it is sometimes best to wait for what you want. Try not to do the local pet shop thing...but we all seem to give in to that one every once in while! LOL  We have several corns and we started with a baby amel and she is awesome now and growing like a weed. There are lots of good breeders here that are all about ready to lil hatchling soon (even us) so you have a good chance of finding some real awesome snakes here!

Sure, some pet shops should be avoided, but I don't think it's fair to say avoid all pet shops. It really just depends where you go. I volunteer at a local pet shop and the people are friendly and the animals are always healthy and beautiful. My boy Connor came from there.
Pet shop purchases can be a good thing so long as you check any potential purchase over for mites, etc.
Good luck with your snakes
