We have pinks!

snakemom1961

Spring is here!
Just yesterday I told my girls if the mice we purchased a month or so ago don't start producing soon, They were gonna become snake food and we'd start a new colony.

I went into their room this morning, to check on the guinea pigs, and sure enough there's 7 pinks! Told my girls if the mom doesn't eat em, we are gonna let em grow to be peach fuzzy's(that's what the baby is ready for now). and then we'll kill em.

One of my girls said. "But mom their too cute(I'm like YUCK!). I'll have NO PROBLEM offing em myself, as long as the girls don't get too attached.

What do you think is the best way to kill the peach fuzzies, could I just put them in the freezer at that point? Or would doing the CO2 chamber be my best bet. Any advice would be welcome. THANKS!

Co2 chamber is always the most humane way for it to be done, but most of us just freeze pinks through fuzzies. I would give them a flick on the head before freezing them, that way they are rendered unconscious.

Congrats on the litter.

Ok, thanks. I personally will have no problem doin that(if i can bring myself to hold them at all.lol) I'm deathly afraid of mice and rats, so this will be quite an experience for me. I may have my daughter rebecca do it, she, I dont' think will have a problem thumping em....LOL

I tried the baking soda and vinegar and didn't use the right proportions. I am going to get a co2 cartridge but till then I found out that dry ice works great. They sell it at Meijers for $0.99/lb. This is what I did. I have a big blue rubbermaid tote and I have an extra 15 qt. sterilite with air holes on the sides and on the lid. I filled the sterilite with the dry ice and put the lid on. I then poured water through the holes in the lid onto the dry ice. I then placed the rats in there. The sterilite goes in the large rubbermaid then the rats or mice go on top of it. The lid prevents them from getting frostbite which is just cruel. I then place the rubbermaid lid on and in a matter of seconds (less than 30) the rats (or mice) are dead. I can take pics if my description didn't make sense.

My pinks are now 2 days old and mom hasn't eaten any of them yet..YIPPEE!

My next question is I want to let them grow to be peach fuzzies. About how many day's old will they be before they become peach fuzzies and fuzzies..

Thanks in advance!
