weight loss

Jaffar turned one in September. He's continually gained weight at each feeding and never lost any. This past week he went down 6g. The past 6 weights were
282g
287g
296g
295g
297g
291g
There's normally been at least a 5g gain prior to this past month. Sometimes even over 10g. So I'm a little concerned but he's my first and I have had him since he was a tiny 12g hatchling. Never had any troubles at all.

Thanks in advance. Also feeding a medium size adult mouse every week.

First of all, I would check your scale - a smallish difference like that could be due to a error in measurement.

If your scale is in fact accurate, was there anything different about this weighing? Did he poop the same number of times since the last weighing that he usually does between weighings? Is he drinking/same level of activity?

Otherwise, I would not worry too much. The other thing is variation in feeder size - do you weight the mice you feed, because maybe last week he just ate a lighter one.

Again, I personally wouldn't worry as long as this trend doesn't continue.

His activity is normal, he's taken to pooping in the water lately and it's been same amount. Drinking is also the same. I do not weigh the mice but I will and I'll check my scale out too. Thank you for the advice.

You could actually start feeding him every 10-14 days. At nearly 300 grams, an adult mouse a week is too much. He will be fat and unhealthy quickly if he continues on that schedule. That's huge, for a yearling.

Thank you so much Nanci. I didn't know that was big for a yearling. What is average weight for a yearling? I will definitely do the feeding every other Sunday now.
