Well I lost my snake...

... in the substrate, that is. I use forest bed and last night I took it all out, got it nice and wet with almost boiling hot water, then put it in the oven to dry it out. After it was back in the tank (and cooled down) I put my boy back in and after a minute of exploring, he decided to burrow.

Well... He loves to tunnel around and pop his head up, so I like to keep the substrate somewhat deep. This was the first time I've ever seen him actually sleeping under it though. But here's the funny thing. I'm digging around trying to find him, and the little bugger is slithering around on the very bottom as I move it around. It took me 10 minutes to find him this morning, and I had to remove half of it to locate the little bum! His hides are there, but his substrate is now soooooo soft, that I might just climb in myself and join him! lol

At the risk of sounding soooooooo 1999... Dude, where's my snake?

My concern though, is could this burrowing thing be stress related? He was out for a good couple hours (was hanging out in my pocket). I've just never seen him do it before... I'm thinking though he just likes the sooooooft substrate. hehe

In my best Keanu Reeves voice, It is most excellent that you didn't really loose your snake. That would have been one bogus journey.

Spirit, that snake sooo loved being in your pocket, he is NEVER going to like being back in his viv!!! :)

lol! I was like "Lid, secure? Check! He's in there, I KNOW he is!" but he kept MOVING to the piles as I dug!! Little brat.

Jenny: He's in my shirt right now (no need to state where, I'm sure you know). I don't care what anyone says my snake is definitely a boy.

CAV!!

Spirit, that snake is not stupid, he knows a good thing when he's got it. He is set for a WHILE in there!!!! LOL

I would like to publicly state that I do not start fires to meet firemen.

Thank you.

PS.

But, if that just happens to occur..........................

Spirit's plan for meeting a man:
1. :devil01:

2. :wavey:

3.

4. :dancer:

Eh? You trying to imply something there, CAV? Not that you're wrong, but I'm curious just the same. lol ;)

No you insensitve bastage, Joe lost a snake. lol

I'm so sorry Joe... it finally passed? :(

Yup. Turned the heat up and woke up from my nap and there was no motion, pulled out the sterilite to see he had died.

He's chilling in the freezer awaiting a makeshift autopsy. I need to find out what this "lump" is all about, because I'm sure thats why he died.

Sorry to hear that

Joe! It seems to be a trend around here lately. I'm sure it wasn't your hudbandry skills as you seem to be very concerned with the snakes you have.

P.S. Okay CAV and Spriit...do we need to separate you two?? ROFL

Thanks. I got him in a shipment last week of 5 from the breeder I got at the Tallahassee Expo because an anery I got at the expo died while in a friends care. I'm just not having any luck with anerys this year---this is my 2nd one that's died on me--or well 2nd one I've bought.

I dont think Husbandry is the issue as I've only had it for roughly a week. He was fine when I got him, as he was the other day when I checked on him. This was a new development within the past 24-36 hours. When I checked on him this afternoon he wasn't doing well, couldn't really hold his head up and it seemed nuerological.

I've got him in the freezer since I'm working right now, I'm going to do a makeshift autopsy to try and see what this lump is. I have a feeling it might be an impaction because there was a decent sized hard lump about 2 inches above the went on the ventral side.

Who knows. I was thinking about getting a necropsy done, but I know it's not a cheap thing.

lol! Here, JT... Pour vous.

First he thought he was a sand boa, now he thinks he's a camera!
